R. Scot Heisel

I was fortunate enough to be born and raised in Missoula, Mont., where I earned a bachelor's degree in English Literature at my hometown college, the University of Montana. I was the first member of my family to complete a four-year college degree. I returned for two years of
post-graduate study in journalism.
My career has included work at daily newspapers in Missoula, Bellevue, Wash., Longview, Wash., and Lewiston, Idaho. I have also served as editor for weekly newspapers in Wallowa County, Ore., Polson, Mont., and Cut Bank, Mont.
My job titles have included copy editor, page designer, news editor, digital editor, social media manager, features editor, community news editor, managing editor and publisher. Along the way I've enjoyed my time as a reporter and photographer as well.
The key to being a great reporter is having a healthy dose of curiosity and a knack for listening.
I strive to show respect for everyone I meet, and I believe balanced, professional journalism is vital for a well functioning society.
